First established in 1987, Signal Hill is a rare community in the sense that it contains the neighborhoods of Sienna Hills and Signal Ridge within it. The community contains multiple amenities utterly unique to it including Battalion Park and the Signal Hill public library that serves the surrounding communities; it also enjoys the feature of being located on an elevated 7 kilometres plateau that allows for remarkable views of the Elbow River Valley and of the mountains. The community is comparatively large and a low density residential area with over 14,000 residents. Signal Hill is one of the wealthier neighborhoods in all of southern Calgary with the median household income being $133,844.

Public school students gain the advantage of being attended to by Battalion Park elementary, A.E. Cross junior high, and Ernest Manning senior high school while Catholic school students are assigned to Holy Name elementary, St. Gregory junior high, and Bishop Carroll senior high school.

There are a handful of shopping centres established nearby that serve the community including the Westhills Towne Centre, Westmarket Square, Signature Park Plaza, and the Signal Hill Centre. Battalion Park is an attractive amenity to those fascinated with the Canadian military history. Located on the hillside, the area was a military reserve prior to World War I for the Canadian Forces. The hill is instantly recognizable and identifiable from the numbers 137, 113, 151, and 51 as illustrated on the hill; these were made from soldiers gradually hauling over 16,000 stones up the hill in order to arranging them in this order. These four geoglyphs identify the battalions that served here.

Transportation is easily accessible with Calgary Transit stops situated throughout the community. You’re never farther than a few minutes’ walk from a bus stop anywhere in Signal Hill.
