Rideau Park is an inner-city residential neighborhood that was first established in 1911 in a bend of the exquisite Elbow River. The area is filled with Calgary history from the 1910’s right up until today. Buildings still stand from the neighborhood’s inception. Because of its’ small size, it’s only home to less than 700 residents. Properly considered to be one of the more wealthier parts of the city, Rideau Park has a half and half structure in regards to the type of properties available. Half of the area is single family detached homes and the other half mainly comprise of condominiums or apartments. Rideau Park is also the home to Lindsay’s Castle. The story behind this property is wrapped in the history of a Dr. Neville J. Lindsay, a prominent doctor and developer in the early 1900’s. He had plans to build a large sandstone home for himself, complete with all the decadence, luxury, and majesty that he could afford. Unfortunately, due to financial trouble, only the foundation and main floor of this would-be mansion were ever completed and these still stand today.
Public school students are served by the Rideau Park elementary and junior high, and the Western Canada senior high school. Catholic school students are also well accommodated for with them being assigned to attend the close St. Monica elementary and junior high, St. Michael junior high, and St. Mary’s senior high school.
Macleod Trail will take a resident right up to the downtown core in five minutes or less. Rideau Park is remarkably close to a multitude of work opportunities as well as restaurants, small businesses, shops, and shopping centres. The immaculate Stanley Park extends in Rideau Park’s south and acts as an extensive green space where a resident can take their children, their pets, or even just go for a quiet walk.
Calgary Transit has nearly a dozen stops located on the eastern borders of Rideau Park – all willing to take a resident to wherever they may require.
Close to major transportation routes and with green space for the family, Rideau Park is a neighborhood in which a resident can enjoy a view of the Elbow River and a little bit of nature while being close enough to the downtown core to still be able to make it to work in the morning without a long commute.
