Lakeview Community Description

Within some of Calgary’s most precious and protected areas in all of the city, a visit to Lakeview offers the chance to experience a residential community set amongst a charm that only this neighborhood can provide. Where it sits nestled in between Glenmore Trail, Crowchild Trail and 37th Street, Lakeview is pressed up against city limits with the Tsuu T’ina Nation Indian reserve set to its west. Originally established in the early 1960s, the neighborhood now maintains a population of nearly 5,500 citizens with a median household income of $64,000. The Glenmore Reservoir is held in a spectacular view which is afforded to all Lakeview residents who have the opportunity to explore some of Calgary’s wild side amongst an environment of trees, water, and natural beauty.

Public school students of Lakeview attend Chinook Park Elementary, Woodman Junior High, and Henry Wise Wood Senior High School while Catholic school students are assigned to attend St. Augustine Elementary and Junior High before finishing their studies at Bishop Grandin Senior High School.

The fortunate placing of the community’s position at the city’s western edge means that there are numerous recreational opportunities spread across neighbouring sectors including hiking and cycling trails, the Calgary Rowing Club’s main waters, the Calgary Canoe Club’s main waters, and long reaching green space. Maintaining a thriving community association, there are several additional activities that take advantage of the location including pathfinders, guides, brownies, sparks, bridge clubs, summer soccer, a skating rink set up each winter, and a wide spanning playground facility. Within Lakeview, there is also a lower base of more expensive real estate within a small area known as Lakeview Village that is well known for housing some of Calgary’s more prominent community members.

Lakeview residents are treated to a high number of amenities including a year-round events schedule,  a golf course serving beginner and intermediate players, not to mention Mt. Royal University being located immediately north of Lakeview. This has made the neighborhood an envious spot for students searching for housing and/or student events.

Transportation is well set up despite the community’s western edge. The Glenmore Trail acts as a direct transportation route to some of Calgary’s busiest inner city areas including to the shopping district found just across the river. If you wish to venture east, Glenmore Trail is an excellent way while taking Crowchild Trail will take you up north to visit downtown Calgary in a matter of minutes. Calgary Transit has additional stops set up throughout many of Lakeview’s streets in order to accommodate residents who don’t own a vehicle.

The seclusion and the privacy that Lakeview residents maintain leaves much to do within the community’s little town. The vast array of recreational amenities and access to more commercial areas of the city makes Lakeview a neighborhood that balances of a line between city and town. The neighborhood remains a little off the beaten path and a community well worth consideration for new and existing Calgary residents.
