Originally established in 1967, the neighborhood of Dalhousie is found in the northwest of Calgary south of John Laurie Boulevard, west of Shaganappi Trail, north of Crowchild Trail, and east of the Sarcee Trail. With a population of 9,085 residents, Dalhousie is immediately west of Nose Hill Park which allows residents to get easy access to the city’s pathway system. The neighborhood also finds itself close to several regional shopping centres as well as the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Dalhousie maintains a very active community centre with activities offered to residents of all ages from young children all the way up to seniors. There are also a number of events held each year at the centre to offer residents a chance to get out and enjoy the seasons on a regular basis – the community has something to offer for everyone.
Public school students attend the West Dalhousie elementary, H.D. Cartwright junior high, and Sir Winston Churchill senior high school. These students are fortunate to have their elementary and junior high schools both located within the borders of the Dalhousie community. Meanwhile Catholic school students attend the Dalhousie-local St. Dominic elementary as well as St. Jean Brebeuf junior high and St. Francis senior high school.
The Dalhousie Station Shopping Centre can be found within the community and contains over 39 shops including Boston Pizza, Chapters, Canada Safeway, Dairy Queen, Subway, and a dollar store among other businesses. The Northland Village Mall is also right beside Dalhousie giving residents access to more public service industries within walking distance of the community. Alongside the Nose Hill Park, the Bowmont Park Natural Area is nearby as well as the Bow River for those that enjoy taking a walk through some of the exquisite green space that Calgary has to offer.
Transportation has never been easier for Dalhousie residents with over two dozen stops that line Dalhousie Drive and intersecting streets. The neighborhood is also served well by the Dalhousie station of the C-Train LRT system. Wherever you need to go in the city, a Dalhousie resident is covered.
The neighborhood is unique in its appeal with proximity to major shopping opportunities and commercial businesses, a wonder of green space, and access to routes to get to other parts of the city. Dalhousie has never had more to offer and is a destination of choice for many who are looking to settle down in a safe Calgary community.
