Bridlewood community Information

The narrow southwestern edge of Calgary continues to expand with the Bridlewood community which was originally established in 1998. This residential neighborhood is found in between the Spruce Meadows Trail to the north and the community of Evergreen to the south. Bridlewood is nestled between a stormwater retention pond and wetland by the name of Bridlewood Creek Wetland to its east and the Spruce Meadows equestrian facility to the south. The area is well accommodating for those residents who wish to maintain a rural way of living amongst a city environment. Among new home buyers, Bridlewood remains a favourite with all properties being single-family detached homes and less than 5% of these being used for renting.

Public school students attend Midnapore Elementary, Wilma Hansen Junior High, and Centennial Senior High School. There are several Catholic elementary schools found nearby including Montsenor J.J. O’Brien’s, Mother Theresa’s, St. Jude’s, Father Doucet’s, and St. Catherine’s. Depending on where you are situated in the community, a Bridlewood student will graduate from one of these elementary schools before attending St. Bonaventure’s or St. Stephen’s and then eventually finishing their studies at Bishop O’Byrne.

With a population of 12,000 residents across approximately 4,200 dwellings, the area continues to grow year after year as residents continue to take advantage of the open spaces and number of pathways that weave throughout the community. Bridlewood’s wetlands harbour nearly 25 different types of birds as well as an abundance of flora and fauna. In addition to the Bridlewood Sobeys found on 162nd Avenue, Shaughnessy Center is stationed nearby to provide premiere shopping opportunities, retail stores, and restaurants for residents to explore.

Calgary Transit maintains over two dozen stops set up at various points along 24th Street, 162nd Street, Bridleridge Way, and Bridlewood Avenue. No matter where you are in Bridlewood, making it out to other parts of Calgary is never a hardship with a Calgary Transit stop only minutes away.

With walking distance proximity to a number of movie theatres, restaurants, a golf course, and kilometre after kilometre of green space, Bridlewood is a prime area for families and those accustomed to breathing in a little nature from time to time. Since its inception, the neighborhood has always been dressed in beauty – whether that’s when snow blankets the land in the wintertime or when the sun breaks out on an early summer morning. The neighborhood features several parks and maintains a rural landscape – intimate, serene, and peaceful, Bridlewood is reminiscent of a small town rather than a community amongst communities in a major Canadian city.
